Shaw Introduces New Bio Renewable Carpet Tile Adhesive

Shaw's latest product introduction illustrates continued commitment to sustainability and Cradle to Cradle.

Dalton, GA (PRWEB) - Shaw Industries Group, Inc. (Shaw) announced today the introduction of a new bio renewable adhesive for use with its commercial carpet tile products. It is the first Cradle to Cradle Certified wet flooring adhesive, which used with Shaw’s EcoWorx backed carpet tile represents a complete Cradle to Cradle flooring solution.

The new versions of SHAW 5000 and SHAW 5001 adhesives will continue to provide the same superior performance customers have come to expect – plus new sustainability attributes. The pressure sensitive adhesive is Cradle to Cradle Certified Silver, has achieved Green Label Plus via CRI’s indoor air quality adhesive testing program, and contributes to LEED.

“Shaw’s relentless pursuit of durability and sustainability for our clients includes a keen focus on materials – including innovation with renewable resources,” said Brenda Knowles, vice president of commercial marketing and product development at Shaw. “We’re pleased to deliver this significant advancement in adhesives to customers of our commercial brands Patcraft, Philadelphia Commercial, Shaw Contract Group and Shaw Hospitality Group.”

Available for purchase starting in October, the adhesive comes in four-gallon (SHAW 5000) and one-gallon (SHAW 5001) sizes. Developed in partnership with WF Taylor and BASF Corporation, SHAW 5000/5001 contains bio-mass materials derived from non-food sources. The low-VOC product is alcohol and ammonia free. It dries fast and provides superior tack. Using SHAW 5000/5001, Shaw modular products can be installed into wet adhesive for permanent bonding or atop adhesive that has been allowed to dry to its tacky phase for releasable installations.

“We perpetually advance our business processes and product development. This is the latest example of innovation at Shaw,” states Peter Sigmon, vice president of innovation at Shaw. “By leveraging our own research as well as inventions and intellectual property from other companies via open source innovation, we are able to accelerate our advancement toward key sustainability and business goals.”

Among Shaw’s sustainability goals, the company strives to design 100 percent of our products to Cradle to Cradle protocols by 2030. Currently, almost 65 percent of Shaw’s product sales come from Cradle to Cradle Certified products, which includes a wide variety of carpet, hardwood, cushion and adhesive products – with SHAW 5000 and 5001 joining Shaw’s innovative Lok Dots (adhesive dots).
