Boeing Approved Non-PBDE And Non-PBB Patco 9425FR Flame Retardant Moisture Barrier Tape Available For The First Time

Franklin, MA - Covalence Adhesives, a division of Berry Plastics, and manufacturer of Patco Tapes, has recently announced the immediate availability of Patco 9425FR. Patco 9425FR is the first Boeing approved non-polybrominated biphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and non-polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs) flame retardant and moisture barrier tape for aerospace applications.

"As a result of ongoing dialogue with Boeing, a current client, we recognized the need and the opportunity to develop a medium free of PBDEs and PBBs to serve as a moisture and particle barrier for the next generation 787 Dreamliner," says Mark Britton, Sales Manager Aerospace Products, Covalence Adhesives.

"In compliance with the 787 Dreamliner specifications we were able to effectively leverage our existing technology in combination with our R&D expertise to develop a lightweight, two-layer, high-performance PBDEs and PBBs free moisture barrier polyurethane adhesive tape that meets EU 76/769/EEC," he adds.

"I am pleased to state that Patco 9425FR has been rigorously tested by Boeing's engineering laboratories to their BMS 8-346 specification and has been designated as the exclusive product on Boeing's QPL for the next generation 787 Dreamliner aircraft," Mr. Britton states.

Initially conceived to effectively cover the entire seat track design and prevent moisture ingression and debris contamination through the sub floor Patco 9425FR has proven to meet that need and more. Because it meets F.A.R. 25.853a -- the interior aircraft burn requirements required by the FAA it can be used for seam sealing of floor boards in aircraft wet areas such as galleys, lavatories and entryways for premium corrosion protection. It also can be die cut for custom shape applications such as circles for aircraft floor screw heads, lavatory mounts and air freighter floor fittings.

Patco 9425FR is a clear, 6 mil, two-layer product that features a pressure sensitive flame retardant hydrophobic acrylic adhesive system as one layer and a transparent flame retardant, mold and fungal resistant polyurethane film on the other. This pressure sensitive adhesive system is moderately aggressive yet repositionable; adhesion builds 30-40% in 24 hours.
