Solder has been used to join parts for thousands of years. Romans soldered sheets of lead into tubing and lead pipes together.
Medieval artists assembled stained glass windows using solder, and though fundamentals of soldering have not changed, techniques and knowledge have.
Today, solder is used to assemble light bulbs, radios, televisions, computers, cellular telephones, automobile systems and aircraft guidance control systems, as well as it's uses in plumbing and other areas.
Soldering is a joining method using a filler metal with a melting point below 800ºF (427ºC). When a bond is formed with filler metal at temperatures greater than 800ºF (427ºC), it is considered brazing.
The following is an excerpt from Assembly Magazine; 'With a pneumatic system, our pre-filled 10cc syringes had to be limited to about 25 grams of solder paste.'
'Syringes used with the LDS9000, which are the same size and contain exactly the same material, now contain 40 grams.'
'The bottom line for me is that we have less rework to do, lower material costs, and a whole lot more confidence in the first-pass quality of our final product.'

To solder metals together, three basic elements are needed; Flux is a chemical compound used to promote adhesion of the solder and base metal; Solder is an alloy that is a mixture or solution of two or more elemental metals; Heat is needed to join the base metals together can be applied in various ways.
