A-171 silane, Vinyltrimethoxysilane, is a monomeric silane used to incorporate pendant silane functionality into polymers as an alternative crosslinking mechanism, by radically initiated copolymerisation or polymer-analogous grafting. Being very reactive with water, it is also employed as a water scavenger and crosslinking additive in moisture cure systems, such as RTV silicone, MS polymer, and SPURsm -based sealants.
Typical Physical Properties
- Physical form water white to light straw liquid
- Formula Weight 148
- Specific Gravity (25/25) 0,968
- Boiling Point, (760 mm Hg) 122 °C (252 °F)
- Refractive Index, nD (25°C) 1,391
- Flash Point (*) 28 °C (82 °F)
* Determined by ASTM Method D 56 using the Tag closed cup.
Features and Benefits
- Provides moisture-activated cure mechanism after being radically incorporated in resins.
- Improves physical and thermal properties of grafted polyethylene after moisture-cure.
- Improves physical and adhesion properties of acrylics being incorporated as co-monomer.
- Improves shelf life of hybrid sealants(SPURsm, silylated polyether) when used as a water scavenger.
Suitable for use in polymer systems such as:
Acrylic
Polyester
Polyoletin
Silicone
Silylated Polyether
Silylated Polyurethane
