A-2171 Silane

A-2171 silane is a monomeric silane that functions as a crosslinker in vinyl and acrylic resins.
A-2171 silane is a monomeric silane that functions as a crosslinker in vinyl and acrylic resins. Alternatively, it can be grafted to an organic resin using free radical chemistry. Once grafted to the resin, the silane can crosslink via an ambient moisture-initiated cure mechanism. In RTV silicone sealants, A-2171 silane can act as a chain extender.

Typical Physical Properties

  • Physical form water white to light straw liquid
  • Formula Weight 132
  • Specific Gravity (25/25) 0,888
  • Boiling Point, (760 mm Hg) 106 °C (223 °F)
  • Refractive Index, nD (25 °C) --
  • Flash Point* 8 °C (46 °F)

* Determined by ASTM Method D 56 using the Tag closed cup.

Features and Benefits

  • Provides moisture-activated cure mechanism after being radically incorporated in resins.
  • Adds extra flexibility to the cured system due to reduced crosslink functionality.
  • Improves physical and thermal properties of grafted polyethylene after moisture-cure.
  • Improves physical and adhesion properties of acrylics when incorporated as co-monomer.

Suitable for use in polymer systems such as:

Acrylic
Polyester
Polyolefin
PVC
Silicone
