Arch Chemicals Announces Strategic Alliance with SNPE Subsidiary

Arch Chemicals, Inc. has announced a strategic alliance with Tolochimie, a subsidiary of the SNPE Group of France for the production of Omacide iodopropynyl butylcarbamate (IPBC) products and intermediates.

"We are delighted with our new strategic alliance with SNPE," said Dr. Douglas Simpson, global business manager for Arch's industrial biocides business. "This gives Arch an immediate and significant increase in capacity for Omacide IPBC, and improves our cost position through backward integration into the isocyanate raw materials."

Tolochimie will produce the IPBC at its manufacturing complex in Pont de Claix, France where it produces propynyl butylcarbamate, an IPBC intermediate. They also manufacture agricultural fungicides and other specialty chemical products.

"This long term strategic alliance is important to Tolochimie," said Jean-Pierre Morgades, general manager for SNPE's agrochemicals business. "It allows us to partner with a market leader in biocides, and offers us a new business in an exciting growth product."

IPBC is used in wood protection, architectural coatings, metalworking fluids and cosmetic preservation. Arch entered the IPBC market in 1995 and is the second largest marketer of IPBC in the world. SNPE has supplied intermediates to Arch Chemicals Inc. for a number of years.

Arch produces Omacide IPBC products in its facility in Rochester, NY and through an alliance with M&G, GmbH at M&G's Horhausen, Germany facility. "Arch will continue to manufacture Omacide products in Rochester and Germany," adds Dr. Simpson. "Our alliance with SNPE will strengthen our cost position in IPBC, and will allow us to continue to invest in technology, technical service and new product development for our customers."

Arch Chemicals, Inc., headquartered in Norwalk, CT., is a global specialty chemical company with market positions in Microelectronic Chemicals, Water Chemicals and Performance Chemicals.
