Avery Dennison promotes 3 senior executives

Avery Dennison Corp. today announced the promotions of three members of the company's senior management team, effective December 7, 2000.

Robert G. van Schoonenberg was appointed executive VP, general counsel and secretary. Diane B. Dixon was promoted to senior VP, worldwide communications and advertising. J. Terry Schuler was named senior VP, human resources.

"These three key executives have made outstanding contributions to the success of this company," said Philip M. Neal, chairman and CEO of Avery Dennison. "The board of directors joins me in congratulating them on their well-deserved promotions."

Robert van Schoonenberg was previously senior VP, general counsel and secretary of Avery Dennison. He joined the company in 1981 as VP and general counsel. During his 20 years at Avery Dennison, van Schoonenberg has played a leadership role in the completion of numerous mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, and other significant business transactions that contributed to the growth of the company. He chairs the Corporate Mergers and Acquisitions Committee and heads up a number of corporate functions including business development, law and corporate secretary, intellectual property, risk management, corporate compliance, and environmental, health and safety.

Diane Dixon was previously VP, worldwide communications and advertising. She joined the company in 1982 as director of corporate communications. During her 19 years at Avery Dennison, Dixon has created and implemented strategic communications programs to support and advance the global growth of the company. She is responsible for leading internal and external communications activities as well as corporate and brand identity programs and charitable contributions.

Terry Schuler was previously VP, human resources. He originally joined the company in 1978 as manager, human resources, serving in increasingly responsible human resources positions over the next 17 years. In 1996, Schuler left the company to co-found a consulting firm specializing in organizational development and management training. He rejoined Avery Dennison in 1998 as VP, human resources, with responsibility for all corporate human resources functions, including organization planning and global leadership development, labor relations, benefits compensation planning and practices, diversity and affirmative action programs and strategic staffing operations.

Avery Dennison is a global leader in pressure-sensitive technology and self-adhesive solutions for consumer products and label materials. Based in Pasadena, California, the company had 1999 sales of $3.8 billion. Avery Dennison develops, manufactures and markets a wide range of products for consumer and industrial markets, including Avery-brand office products, Fasson-brand self-adhesive materials, peel-and-stick postage stamps, battery labels, reflective highway safety products, automated retail tag and labeling systems, and specialty tapes and chemicals.
