BASF Promotes PIB As Enhancer For Adhesives, Sealants At Annual ASC Show
Technically advanced additive adjusts cohesion, flexibility, elongation
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. - BASF will present the growing portfolio of its Oppanol® and Glissopal® polyisobutylenes (PIBs) at the Adhesives and Sealants Council (ASC) annual meeting being held April 17 – 20 in Columbus, Ohio. With a wide range of grades, BASF's PIBs are increasingly being used to enhance or modify the properties of both adhesives and sealants.
BASF will exhibit in booth 25 on April 19, 2005 at the Columbus, Ohio, Hyatt Regency.
"The ASC is the industry's primary event for highlighting new products and presenting technical advances such as BASF's PIBs, which are unusually versatile additives for adhesives and sealants," said Timea Marsalko, Business Manager, Polyisobutylenes, for BASF in North America. "By varying the molecular weight, our customers have been able to achieve improvements in applications that require an excellent barrier to moisture and gas, elasticity, permanent stickiness, and puncture resistance, to name a few. Oppanol is being used in roofing membranes, underwater cables, pressure-sensitive and hot-melt adhesives, window systems, automobiles and metal food containers."
BASF invented polyisobutylene more than sixty years ago, and has expanded the product portfolio and improved manufacturing technologies since then. In 2002, for instance, BASF created a new production process for medium molecular weight PIBs that results in exceptional clarity and unsurpassed purity to fulfill increased performance requirements in adhesive, medical and food applications.
