BASF to Gain NYSE listing June 7

BASF announced last week that they had filed a Form 20-F with the SEC to register their ADR's (American Depositary Receipts) pursuant to Section 12 of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934. This registration is a necessary step toward BASF's planned listing of ADRs on the New York Stock Exchange on June 7, 2000.

Each BASF ADR will represent one BASF ordinary share. BASF's ordinary shares are currently traded on the Frankfurt, London and Swiss stock exchanges. No new shares will be issued in connection with the listing.

BASF is a company generating long-term growth and profitability from its activities in chemicals, health and nutrition, and oil and gas. The company's product range includes high-value chemicals, plastics, dyestuffs, dispersions, automobile and industrial coatings, crop protection products, pharmaceuticals, fine chemicals, crude oil and natural gas. With sales in 1999 of 29.5 billion euros (about $29.5 billion) and a workforce of 105,000 employees, BASF is one of the world's top chemical companies.
