Bostik Findley Announces New Chem-Calk® Syl-A-Pocket® One Component, Pourable "Pitch Pocket" Filler

MIDDLETON, Mass. - A new, construction-grade one component pitch pocket filler that offers the latest technology in weather sealing has been recently introduced by Bostik Findley, Inc., a worldwide manufacturer and supplier of adhesives and sealants.

Engineered for superior weathering characteristics and flow properties, Chem-Calk® Syl-a-Pocket® is a pourable, moisture reactive product for filling pitch pockets or to repair existing ones in typical pitch pocket configurations in roof construction. Its high solids content and elastomeric quality provides long-lasting seals that will not shrink or become brittle with prolonged exposure to weather extremes or ultraviolet rays.

Designed as a dual-purpose filler for new pitch pockets and for the repair of existing applications, its non-gassing formula technology allows for a homogenous filler profile. Among the many performance benefits are its ability to cure in high humidity conditions and a pourable consistency to fill voids faster with very little shrinkage. Furthermore, Syl-a-Pocket has low odor, low VOC content and no solvents making it environmentally respectful and safer to handle.

Syl-a-Pocket moisture cures to offer superior adhesion and weather sealing properties when used as an over-the-pocket filler or when sealing roof penetrations involving dissimilar building materials such as vent pipes or stacks.

Permanently elastic within a temperature range of -40°F to 200°F, Chem-Calk Syl-a-Pocket has a 60-minute skin-time. After full cure, the sealant provides very good UV radiation resistance, as well as outstanding resistance to extreme and/or harsh weather conditions. Typical physical properties include: a tensile strength of 150 psi; an elongation rating of 400 percent; and a 29 Shore A hardness value. Additionally, Syl-a-Pocket has a 12-month shelf life.
