Exxon Butyl is an elastomeric copolymer of isobutylene with small amounts of isoprene
ExxonMobil ChemicalButyl is an elastomeric copolymer of isobutylene with small amounts of isoprene (1-2.5 mole %). A range of polymer viscosities and cure response, reflecting molecular weight and isoprene level, is offered. Physical properties include low permability to air, gases and moisture; vibration damping; low glass transition temperature; resistance to aging and to weathering from atmospheric exposure; good chemical resistance; and compatibility with hydrocarbon solvents. The copolymer is suited for the tire industry, specifically for innertubes and tire curing bladders. Non-tire applications include pharmaceutical closures, roof membranes, body mounts, and tank linings.
