FOUNDATIONS Technology From Dow Latex Meets Demand For Wet Strength In Commercial Carpet Backing Applications
Dalton, Ga — The Dow Latex business of The Dow Chemical Company is offering FOUNDATIONS 875 High-Performance acrylic latex, a product that provides moisture barrier properties compared to other latexes used for commercial carpet backing applications. FOUNDATIONS meets market demand for carpet backing that help prevent spills and other contaminants from infiltrating into the hard-to-clean carpet backing and sub-floor, according to the company.
The company claims that, designed for use in the pre-coat compound, FOUNDATIONS latex remains strong even during instances of high moisture penetration, such as installations or wet extraction cleanings with limited drying times. It also provides delamination resistance, good tuft bind and edge ravel values, and it can be easily run on existing carpet coaters with little or no modification.
In addition to its moisture barrier properties, FOUNDATIONS latex features a unique polymer design that allows formulators to incorporate post-industrial or post-consumer (recycled) fillers in the backing compound. "FOUNDATIONS acrylic latex brings value to our customers, not only because of its exceptional wet strength, but also because its unique properties allow for the incorporation of recycled content in the backing compound," said R. Todd Crook, senior marketing manager, Dow Carpet Latex, North America. "With this product, we cater to the needs of the end-user as well as to the carpet mills who are looking to achieve higher certification levels in the newly created Sustainable Carpet Standard".
