Hot Aqueous Soluble Bonding Adhesives
The bonding films and blocking agents offer high adhesion and structural stability to a range of substrates enabling easy performance of cutting, grinding, or polishing processes. The films, Ultra MEC TFA and Ultra MEC TFG are produced in thicknesses of 4 and 8 mils, respectively. The TFA is produced in a neat film whereas the 'TFG contains a structural reinforcement. The blocking agents, Ultra MEC T50 and Ultra MEC T85 are offered in bulk form and provide structural characteristics similar to those seen in the films. Each product is made with an ultraviolet dye used for easy identification during material processing and cleanup.
The company's films and blocking agents are stable at room temperature in both aqueous and solvent-based slurries allowing normal machining processes to be carried out without incident. The products are specifically formulated to provide complete solubility in hot aqueous chemistries. Solvents are not the choice for dissolution. In fact, most common organics such as ketones and hydrocarbons will not dissolve the company's products, even at elevated temperature.
Films and blocking agents are handled in a fashion similar to most thermoplastics. The films are cut to size, inserted between the surfaces to be bonded, and heat is applied for complete adhesion. The blocking agents are handled in the same way as most waxes and pitch, via a simple "melt and pour" process. When operating at recommended temperatures, no volatiles are emitted enabling product stability over time.
The company recommends its environmentally safe and EPA certified product, ULTRA MEC SS1 (PC) for cleanup. A 5-10% solution of the SS1 (PC) processed at elevated temperature provides complete dissolution. After cleanup and with local municipal approvals, the solution may be discharged directly to the sewer.
