Shell Chemicals offers Kraton Polymers for new possibilities in the manufacture of hot-melt pressure sensitive adhesives (PSAs) and laminating films with improved performance and processing advantages.

The development of radiation curable Kraton D-KX222C Polymer, which offers quality performance at high temperatures, will enable manufacturers to use hot-melt PSAs for the first time in high performance tape applications, such as automotive masking and other industrial tapes, where adhesives with high tack and temperature resistance above 140º C are required. The polymer provides manufacturers with an alternative to ready-to-use UV acrylic-based adhesives. It offers greater freedom for tailoring formulations to give specific properties for particular applications, for example providing high peel adhesion for automotive tapes. In addition, the creation of Kraton Liquid Polymers enables manufacturers to produce PSAs via unique warm melt processing methods, for those high performance applications requiring superior adhesive properties, such as transfer tapes and specialty film labels.

Another development from Kraton Polymers will allow the manufacture of laminating films with better hydrolysis resistance and high elongation. Compared to other commercially available polymers, formulations containing Kraton G Polymers can allow films to be used in humid conditions, such as dishwashers, and in heat-sealable food wrappers and other flexible assemblies. The high elasticity, good clarity and tailored adhesion of Kraton G Polymer-based formulations brings a wide range of benefits to laminating film applications, from semi structural adhesives to universal easy-peel packaging systems.
