Liquid, Hydroxyl Terminated Polymers

Arkema Inc.5HT and R-45M resins are liquid, hydroxyl terminated polymers of butadiene with number average molecular weights of approximately 2700. The Poly bd R-20LM resin is a lower viscosity, lower molecular weight version of the R-45HT. Poly bd 600 and 605 resins, internally epoxidized derivatives of the R-20LM, are available.

Poly bd resins' terminal hydroxl groups are predominantly primary and of the allylic type. This structural combination results in high reactivity during both condensation polymerization and the preparation of derivatives. The degree of polymerization is approximately 50 for the R-45M and R-45HT resins, and about 25 for the R-20LM. Hydroxyl functionality is typically in the range of 2.4 to 2.6 for the R-45HT and R-20LM resins, and generally 2.2 to 2.4 for the R-45M resin.

These resins are characterized by low volatiles content and low moisture levels. Their low viscosities allow for easy handling, both in containers and in bulk.

These resins are suitable for applications such as general adhesive purposes, coatings, construction products, waterproof membranes, electrical applications and automotive.
