Nordson Acquires J & M Laboratories

Nordson Corp. announced today that on September 16, 1998, it finalized its acquisition of BDL Holdings, Inc., the privately held parent company of J & M Laboratories, Inc., of Dawsonville, GA.

J & M Laboratories is a leading manufacturer of melt-blowing systems used to produce synthetic nonwoven fabrics, and adhesive dispensing equipment used in the assembly of products such as baby diapers, medical disposables and feminine hygiene products. Founded in 1985, the company currently employs 85 people, and its projected 1998 sales are $21 million. The purchase price was not disclosed.

``This acquisition will merge J & M's meltblown and spun-bond technologies with Nordson's existing nonwoven capabilities. In addition, Nordson's financial strength, technical expertise, and well-established global sales and service network will further enhance worldwide sales of J & M's products,'' said John E. Jackson, senior VP.

``Customers of both companies will now benefit from economies of scale and additional integrated nonwovens applications—including on-line manufacture of backsheets and expanded adhesive capabilities—that will streamline the purchasing process, reduce costs and improve service,'' added Jackson.

Nordson Corporation designs manufactures and markets systems that apply adhesives, sealants and coatings to consumer and industrial products during manufacturing operations.
