Nordson Hot Melt Pallet Stabilization Systems allow pallets to be stabilized securely and efficiently
Hot melt pallet stabilization offers a dependable and cost-efficient method to unitize palletized products.

Nordson Hot Melt Pallet Stabilization Systems allow pallets to be stabilized securely and efficiently for an average adhesive cost of five cents or less per pallet. Mounted directly on the production line, the automatic system places hot melt adhesive on the corners of cartons, bags or boxes before pallet stacking.

Hot melt adhesive stabilizes pallet loads by increasing friction, thereby resisting lateral movement that minimizes load shifting and possible product damage. Partial pallet loads are easily handled because each container adheres to the other lending load integrity to the stacked pallet. Depending on current method and material consumption, system payback can be achieved in as short as three months.

The self-contained system includes a sturdy, tubular-frame stand, applicator, automatic guns mounted directly to the applicator, pattern control and photocell. System flexibility allows tailoring to meet specific palletizing requirements, including a choice of: Series 3100, 3400 or 2300 pistonpump applicators, automatic guns for solid-bead or spiral-spray patterns, temperature control systems and pattern control devices.

Series 3000 applicators come with a choice of two innovative MicroSet Control Systems: the simplified UniScan Control featuring quick-and-easy temperature setting and operation, or the microprocessorbased MultiScan Control with explicit diagnostics and bright LED system-status lights. Automatic guns are available in single or dual-module configurations of Series H200 Guns for solid-bead deposition, or Series CF200 Controlled Fiberization Guns for swirl-spray patterns.

Further system tailoring is provided with a selection of time-based pattern control devices. The CT-8 Time Interval Control features durable solid-state technology for repeatable single-pattern selection. The PC40 Pattern Control offers increased flexibility and simplicity in palletizing different product sizes or using stitching patterns. Engineered with ASIC technology (Application Specific Integrated Circuit), the value-added PC40 provides multiple memories and outputs, and remote memory selection.

Pattern Versatility

A choice of adhesive patterns meets individual end product and handling objectives. Solid beads, used on corrugated cases and bags, can be pressure-sensitive, packaging grade or crystallizing adhesive depending on the substrate, method of handling, or environmental conditions. Almost invisible when applied, controlled fiberization spray patterns use pressure-sensitive adhesive on cartons, cases or bags where the package design and message must remain aesthetically intact.

  • Pressure-sensitive adhesive: provides a "break and remake" bond allowing pallet loads to be broken down and restacked while maintaining load integrity. Either solid bead or spray patterns can be used depending on the substrate and amount of friction required.
  • Packaging grade adhesive: provides either a solid adhesive bond with fiber tear, or a mechanical interlock bond without fiber tear formed by the cooled hot melt bead and case weight deforming the contact surface.
  • Crystallizing adhesive: provides pressure-sensitive or solid adhesive bond, yet allows bond to be broken within the adhesive without fiber tear.
