Performance Advances In Polyurethane Adhesives And Sealants To Be Unveiled At Polyurethanes Gathering

New Research Fuels Continued Growth Of Polyurethane-Based Adhesives

ARLINGTON, VA - Important advances relating to the overall performance of polyurethane-based adhesives will be addressed during the Coatings, Adhesives and Sealants technical session at the Polyurethanes 2005 Technical Conference & Trade Fair, October 17-19 in Houston, Texas. Sponsored by the Alliance for the Polyurethanes Industry (API), the conference also will offer several related educational training programs, including a course on adhesives and sealants applications for polyurethanes and an introduction to polyurethane chemistry and technology.

"Polyurethane chemistry continues to play an important role in the development of exciting new industrial adhesive and sealant materials," said Dick Mericle, executive director of API. "Our adhesives and sealants technical session is shaping up as a real showcase of the latest developments from around the world."

A team from Dow France S.A.S. will present the merits of its recent controlled reactivity prepolymer technology as an alternative to conventional prepolymer catalyzed chemistry. Controlled reactivity of prepolymers for coatings, adhesives, sealants and elastomer (CASE) applications has emerged globally as one of the major drivers of prepolymer technology improvement, helping users to achieve tailored reactivity and enhanced mechanical performance.

Scientists from Japan's Tosoh Corp. also will discuss a newly developed catalyst system based on thermo-sensitive tertiary amines in CASE applications.

This year's Polyurethanes Technical Conference & Trade Fair offers more than 80 technical papers on a wide variety of topics, including appliance applications; automotive interior trim and structural RIM applications; blowing agents; coatings, sealants and adhesives; combustibility issues; construction; elastomers and TPU; environmental, health and safety issues; footwear; furnishings; fundamentals; processing innovations; recycling; and regulatory updates.
