Pflaumer Brothers Introduces TERAMINE 654, A Co-Hardener And Accelerator For Ambient-Cure Epoxy Systems
Pflaumer Brothers announces the introduction of TERAMINE 654, a versatile co-hardener and accelerator designed to enhance performance and formulation control in ambient-cure epoxy systems. TERAMINE 654 is a catalyzing additive engineered to facilitate reactions between epoxy resins and a wide range of hardener chemistries, delivering faster cure times and improved structural properties across demanding applications.
When used with conventional hardeners such as polyamides, polyamidoamines, aliphatic amines, and cycloaliphatic amines, TERAMINE 654 functions as a highly effective catalyst, accelerating cure across a broad range of epoxy applications, including adhesives, electrical casting, impregnation, and high-performance composites. It is particularly valuable in applications that require precise, predictable cure behavior, even when fluctuating temperatures could otherwise compromise the coating’s properties during application.
Beyond its role as a co-hardener, TERAMINE 654 can also be used in homopolymerization of epoxy resins, expanding its utility in composite and specialty epoxy formulations where enhanced structural performance is critical.
“TERAMINE 654 gives formulators the ability to fine-tune cure speed while preserving formulation flexibility,” comments Brian Taubler, Vice President, Global Sales and Business Development at Pflaumer. “It delivers consistent, dependable curing performance and greater processing latitude for epoxy systems that need to perform across a wide range of conditions.”
Key features of TERAMINE 654 include:
- Highly efficient epoxy cure accelerator
- Precise control over cure speed
- Activates reactions in cold/challenging environments
- Homopolymerization catalysis capability
- Compliant with FDA Regulation 21 CFR 175.300 for use in direct food-contact articles
Pflaumer recommends validating TERAMINE 654 in the intended end-use environment prior to application. TERAMINE 654 is intended for industrial use only.
Founded 93 years ago, Pflaumer is a manufacturer of specialty chemicals for coatings, inks, plastics, metalworking fluids, and lubricants, as well as serving related industries such as composites, electronics, and construction. The company produces polymers for high-performance coatings applications, including epoxies, urethanes, polyureas, and polyaspartics.
Pflaumer offers a variety of new products and technologies for high-performance coatings applications. These technologies include curing agents for epoxies; specialty amines for polyaspartics and polyureas; aliphatic and aromatic polyisocyanates; polyols for urethanes; hydrogels; specially designed colorants for epoxies, urethanes and polyaspartics; functional additives to improve flow, leveling, deaeration, dispersion, wetting, emulsification, and adhesion; reactive and non-reactive diluents to replace conventional solvents; catalysts to speed cure times; and moisture scavengers to minimize the contamination of moisture in polyaspartic and urethane formulations.
The development of new products and technologies is supported by substantial pilot-scale manufacturing at the company’s headquarters in Ewing, NJ, and by applications laboratories located in both New Jersey and California.
