Chemcentral Corporationas, as one of the company's quality suppliers of raw materials for the Coatings and Inks market, has recently introduced 5 new rheology modifiers targeted for use in flat and low sheen interior latex paint. This new series of anionic, hydrophobically modified alkali soluble emulsions provide a low cost/high performance alternative to traditional thickeners for latex paint.

The following reviews the features and benefits of using the two main Acrysol DR rheology modifiers: DR-1 designed to provide outstanding resistance to roller spatter and improved leveling and DR-73 designed to provide increased high shear viscosity for higher film build, brush drag and hiding.

Features
Acrysol DR-1

  • Excellent thickening efficiency
  • Improved scrub resistance
  • Improved water resistance
  • Provided as liquid

Acrysol DR-73

  • Develops high shear viscosity; ICI
  • Improved viscosity stability after tinting
  • Improved viscosity stability after heat aging
  • Provided as liquid

Benefits

  • Lower raw material cost
  • Lower formulated cost
  • Equal/Better performance
  • Equal feel/in-can appearance
  • Excellent sag resistance
  • Excellent brush loading, good rolller transfer
  • Excellent spatter resistance
  • Easy to incorporate/handle
  • Resistant to microbial attack
